SOUTHAMPTON: Joe Root scored his second century of the World Cup as England beaten the West Indies by 8 wickets in Southampton on Friday with 16.5 overs to spare.

The host nation received the toss and made the most of favourable bowling conditions on a day when the rain finally relented, bowling the West Indies out for 212.
But by the point they came to bat the sun was out and match favourites England hardly looked troubled, with Root specifically timing the ball beautifully right through his 100 no longer out.
Test captain Root opened along Jonny Bairstow instead of the injured Jason Roy, who had limped off the field with a tight hamstring right through the West Indies innings.
Root, who made 107 in England's defeat in opposition to Pakistan, made batting look simple, scoring a run-a-ball 50 without having to take useless risks as he and Bairstow tamed the West Indies quicks.
Shannon Gabriel had Bairstow caught by Carlos Brathwaite for 45, leaving England 95/1, but Chris Woakes was briefly into his stride, drilling a four back previous Gabriel off his third ball.
With the top in sight, Woakes was brushed aside for 40, caught by Shimron Hetmyer off the bowling of Gabriel.
Root reached 3 figures off 93 balls with 11 fours and is now the match's top-scorer -- with a complete of 279 runs in four innings.
Earlier, England contained the West Indies well but at a price, with Roy and captain Eoin Morgan limping off the pitch.
Despite occasional flurries, the Caribbean facet had been by no means able to mount a sustained attack on England's bowlers after Woakes and Jofra Archer conceded just 8 runs off the first 5 overs of the match.
Fuelled by 3 wickets each and every for Archer and Mark Wood, England brushed aside their warring parties with greater than 5 overs to spare.

Nicholas Pooran and Hetmyer (39) mixed to put on 89 runs for the fourth wicket sooner than Root struck two times, retaining directly to catches off his personal bowling to take away Hetmyer and Jason Holder.
Andre Russell shone in short but was caught by Woakes off the bowling of Wood for 21 and the remaining four wickets tumbled for just 10 runs.
