World Cup spot on line, BCCI seeks government nod to host Pakistan women's team

NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket board (BCCI) has sought permission from the government to host the Pakistan ladies's group for a one-day international sequence this 12 months as part of International Cricket Council's (ICC) Women's Championship, which will determine qualification for the Women's World Cup in 2021.

The BCCI unearths itself in a difficult situation due to the existing political rigidity between the two neighbouing countries, which has averted any bilateral sequence between the men's groups for 6 years now.


In a letter despatched to the sports activities ministry on May 29, BCCI common supervisor (cricket operations) Saba Karim has explained the board's place. The ICC conducts the Women's Championship where groups need to play each and every different on a home and away foundation. The issues system of this event determines the score of the groups to qualify for the World Cup.

"As per the schedule of the event, BCCI is to host Pakistan women's team for at least three ODIs in India between July and November. BCCI would like to seek necessary permission from the government of India before giving its consent to ICC on this subject," the letter, accessed through TOI, says.

Sources in the sports activities ministry informed IdealNews that the topic would sooner or later need to be cleared through the ministry of external affairs.

'Waiting to hear from govt quickly'


Hosts BCCI had moved final males's Asia Cup to UAE in September final 12 months since website hosting Pakistan in India was once now not possible. But that was once a multi-nation event. "We will have to look at other options if the government doesn't give the permission to host the Pakistan women's team. We are waiting to hear from the government soon," a top BCCI reliable mentioned.


ICC had kept bilateral Test fixtures between India and Pakistan out of its future excursions programme (FTP) for the 2019-2021 cycle even if the inaugural World Test Championship gets underway in August, with India travelling to West Indies. But that was once performed beneath the ICC's participants participation agreement (MPA).


As for the Women's World Cup in New Zealand 2021, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies are taking part in in a two-and-a-half-year festival beneath the banner of ICC. It is still now not transparent if India should forfeit issues if the sequence isn't cleared through the government. The go back bilateral sequence at Pakistan's home ground may also be beneath a cloud. "The ICC will deal with it if BCCI is unable to host Pakistan. It will be dealt with at that point based on the facts. There's no determined time frame for BCCI to announce the schedule but they are encouraged to do it as early as possible," assets in the ICC informed TOI.
