3 youths fined for taking photo with wild elephant

Coimbatore: Taking picture with a wild elephant within the background proved a pricey affair for 3 youths from Chinna Thadagam village after forest officials stuck them within the act close to Anuvavi Subramaniyaswamy temple at Periya Thadagam at the outskirts of the town on Wednesday and slapped on them a high-quality of Rs 5,000 every.

After the video of a group of youths teasing a wild elephant herd close to Thadagam highway had long past viral on social media, Coimbatore forest ranger S Suresh had beefed up patrolling in Thadagam and Anuvavi Subramaniyaswamy temple space to curb such incidents.

On Wednesday night, Ranjithkumar, Karthick and Prakashkumar, of Chinna Thadagam, were taking picture with a wild elephant within the background when forest department box workforce reached the spot and stuck them red-handed.

The trio was taken to the administrative center of Coimbatore forest ranger and questioned. One of them was a faculty student and some other, a driving force. The officials accumulated from them Rs 5,000 every as high-quality and later they were let off with a warning. "We will take stringent action against the people who disturb wild animals," the forest ranger stated.


District forest officer Satheesh, in the meantime, requested NGOs to create consciousness among the youths about increasing incidents of man-animal battle and why wild animals must not be disturbed.


In November closing, 3 youths were fined Rs 5,000 every for taking selfie with a wild elephant at the Anuvavi Subramaniyaswamy temple.


Forest department officials stated teasing wild animals was an offense and people involving in such acts might be arrested.
