GURGAON: The much-awaited demarcation of Badshapur drain off Gurgaon-Faridabad street will in any case happen on Friday.
MCG on Thursday said it'll carry out a physical survey of about 700-metre-stretch of Badshapur drain, from Gwal Pahari to Ghata, on Friday morning. Though it took the reference issues on September 1, but the demarcation of the drain has been pending.
"All the stakeholders are informed that khasra no 86/2, 86/1 and 226 in Gwal Pahari village will be demarcated on October 27, 2017, at 10 am," MCG said in a liberate.
Green activists were elevating the call for for the demarcation of the drain for a long time. Two residents of Gurgaon-Faridabad Road — Vaishali Chandra Rana and Sharmila Kaushik — had moved the National Green Tribunal (NGT) in March 2017, in search of rapid elimination of illegal encroachments and alter of land use for Badshapur drain into "stormwater drains" over its whole 27-km-long stretch.
"Even though 700 metres is not a very big area and we want the entire 27 km of the drain to be demarcated, we appreciate the step taken by MCG. We have been demanding for the demarcation of the drain for the past three years. The objective of demarcation is to remove encroachments," said Vaishali.
Sharmila, the opposite petitioner, said the corporation must prepare a record within a week as quickly because the demarcation is finished. "The demarcation has already taken a long time to happen. Now, the priority should be to prepare a report within a week so that all concerned agencies, be it MCG, Huda or the department of town and country planning, can remove the encroachments on the drain. Later, authorities should put a tree line or fence to prevent any further encroachment on the stormwater drain."
The petitioners, in the NGT, had alleged that encroachment on a herbal drain is a blatant violation of the provisions of Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, as well as violation of the fairway courtroom's instructions and Guidelines on Urban Flooding, 2010, ready through National Institute for Disaster Management.
Five demarcations of the drain in Gwal Pahari have already taken place in 2015 and 2016. Even despite the fact that the ones demarcations showed that the drain has been encroached upon, a contemporary demarcation was ordered, which can now be performed on Friday.
The encroachment on Badshapur drain ended in Gurujam in July 2016 that ended in the narrowing down of the drain, which led to large flooding in the town.
