BHUBANESWAR: Basic Science College, a constituent faculty of the Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), will not go for polls for 2nd consecutive year this time. Bikash Chandra Panda, fundamental of the school, said they've taken this determination after preserving a meeting within the faculty. "Students select our faculty for its non violent educational atmosphere.
Now election procedure and violence are coming together. We do not need to dilute the campus atmosphere by permitting election," he added. He said in addition they plan to choose some excellent candidates with the assistance of the students to constitute the students' union of the school. City Women's College may be making plans not to hold election within the campus for 3rd consecutive year this time. The faculty has been cancelling the polls since 2015.
"Our mid-term examinations of the students will start by October first week. If we allow the election, students cannot concentrate on their studies. So, it is not feasible for us to participate in the process," said Suryasnata Satapathy, fundamental of the school.However, the Ekamra College will cross to polls after 4 years because it cancelled polls since 2013 within the wake of large-scale violence then.
A bunch of scholars had ransacked the school after the government rejected nominations of two aspirants on October 1, 2013. They had vandalized the school property. Later the school cancelled the election. "We have seen peaceful atmosphere in the campus this year. Students are cooperating with us. If this situation prevails, we will hold the polls. We are ready for the election," said Ashok Kumar Pradhan, fundamental of the school.
Jagdish Gajendra, an aspirant for the submit of president within the Ekamra College, said he has already deliberate everything to start out marketing campaign for the polls. "We are so happy that the college authorities will conduct polls this year. We will maintain peace in the campus and carry out the campaign," he added.
Two other schools in town, which had cancelled polls final year for violence, will go for elections this year. These are BJB Autonomous College and Maharishi College of Natural Law. The government of the school said they'll cancel the elections if they find violence within the campus.
