Construction work and snarls never stop here

NOIDA: Sector 125 in Noida is relatively the opposite of Sahibabad. A growing urban house, it has vast open areas for one, and no chimneys sending smoke trails into the air.

But the reading on the pollution meter is still as dangerous. That's because the vast open areas aren't inexperienced but predominantly brown. Many are construction websites dug up. Several have construction paintings on in complete swing. The roads, although huge, seldom be offering a easy force on account of illegal parking. As a result, vehicular congestion is top, particularly near the Amity University campus, in step with citizens.

The Greater Noida expressway additionally passes via it, this means that there is a secure circulation of traffic there always. A combination of most of these factors is riding up pollution ranges, officials said.

B B Awasthi, regional officer of the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB), said, "Sector 125 is where our ambient air quality monitoring system is located, so the results are highlighting the sector. But the findings are indicative of the entire city in general. In Sector 125, the causes of pollution are many — vehicular traffic, dusty broken roads, major ongoing construction, heavy dust blowing in from muddy areas."

The Noida Authority said it has started taking steps to lower pollution ranges after a directive was issued via EPCA chairman Bhure Lal on Tuesday. The Authority on Wednesday claimed to have enforced all pollution regulate regulations thru its more than a few departments in the sector. Noida is experiencing one in every of its worst polluted stages. On Diwali, air high quality index (AQI) of Noida shot beyond the 400-mark.

SC Mishra, undertaking engineer of Noida Authority, who was present on the EPCA meeting, said, "In post-Diwali pollution calculation, the concentration appears manifold because of the prevalent weather condition. Humidity is high and the pollutant particles are closer to ground. We have notified all departments in Noida Authority to enforce all existing pollution control norms in the city. All material carrying trucks will have to be covered. Water needs to be sprinkled at construction sites. The EPCA chairman will visit Noida on Saturday to inspect the region and advise us on further measures."

Greater Noida-based environmentalist Vikrant Tongad said, "Sector 125 is both industrial and institutional; there is a need for broad-leaf trees, sprinkling of water on construction sites, vacuum cleaning of the highway and the inner roads as it is being done in many parts of Delhi. Noida's roads are not swept or washed so there is a high level of dust on the roads at any given time. All pollution control norms as listed by MoeF in 2010 need to be implemented at both government and private constructions taking place in the area."
