NRC draft: Central forces to guard Assam from 'backlash'

GUWAHATI: The Union ministry of house affairs (MHA) has confident the state govt of providing good enough central paramilitary forces to verify legislation and order amidst fears of a minority backlash when the draft sign in of Indian citizens within the state is revealed in December. The sign in, referred to as the National Register of Citizens (NRC), is expected to sieve unlawful migrants from Bangladesh.

A pilot undertaking launched in minority-dominated Barpeta in 2010 was once terminated when minority scholars went on a rampage, forcing the police to open hearth. Four persons have been killed and over 70 have been injured.

Fearing a breakdown of legislation and order based on indicators from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) that some organisations are looking to create bother when the draft NRC is revealed, the state govt had approached the MHA. There are apprehensions that names of a large number of Muslim other people shall be not noted from the draft sign in.

CM Sarbananda Sonowal at a public assembly in higher Assam on Monday mentioned "certain forces are trying to create confusion and fear psychosis among the people and the government will ensure that all genuine citizens are included in the NRC and there is no need to worry."
