GUWAHATI: After the successful opening edition of the Sunday walking zone this week, the Kamrup (Metro) district management is now focussing on making guests' revel in even higher.

Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner M Angamuthu mentioned the management has been assessing field-level inputs and comments received from government businesses, the general public and different stakeholders to stay bettering the event. "There were some issues but most people liked the idea. That is encouraging. But we will try our best to address these issues and make it even better next time," Angamuthu added.

According to the district management, about 50,000 folks turned up on the walking zone, a stretch of the Mahatma Gandhi Road from Sukreswar Temple to Bharalumukh Footbridge, this Sunday.

The management will determine higher street furnishing and logistical enhance this time. Besides, there will be better focus on illumination. "We are also discussing with the Guwahati Municipal Corporation the possibility of installing more toilets and other facilities for women and children," the DC mentioned. "The road refurbishing and arterial road improvement are some of the main issues we are looking for. Pruning of trees and clearing of elements that block the river view are the other issues on which we are working," he added.


Another downside the management hopes to address is that of parking. Traffic congestions on different routes in the city have been additionally a problem this time. Many individuals who have been intended to take the MG Road had to AT Road to succeed in the Jalukbari aspect which created jam on all of the space.


"This was done without proper study. This is a sort of harassment. We welcome such moves but it should have been well planned. It is very unfortunate on the part of the district administration and the Guwahati development department," mentioned Rahul Das, a city resident.


Guwahati building minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had introduced the walking zone, pronouncing that it is going to permit the folks to spend high quality time with their households.
