PANAJI: Three new floating jetties are proposed to come up on River Mandovi as a part of the nationalization of waterways project. The floating jetties can be tendered and constructed as soon as the tripartite agreement is signed between Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) and the Goa executive.
"With a view to facilitate developing of waterways for shipping and navigation, three floating jetties are proposed in the first phase," a central executive respectable said.
According to assets, the draft memorandum of understanding (MoU), which can be signed between the MPT, IWAI and Goa executive, is ready.
"Chief minister Manohar Parrikar said he wants to show the plan to all the MLAs and get their approval. This was more than a week ago. Only once the MoU is signed will the projects be taken up," an respectable in the state division of ports said.
Six rivers of Goa have been declared as nationwide waterways (NW) beneath the National Waterways Act. These are Chapora (NW-25), Cumbharjua canal (NW-27), Mandovi (NW-68), Mapusa (NW-71), Sal (NW-88) and Zuari (NW-111).
One floating jetty can be constructed reverse the Panaji fish marketplace and every other in place of the outdated Captain of Ports jetty. The 3rd floating jetty can be an extension of the prevailing floating jetty at Old Goa.
For building of the six nationwide waterways in Goa, MPT and IWAI have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which allows MPT to adopt the tasks on behalf of IWAI for preparation of the project estimate, soft record and finalization of the soft.
"Indian and foreign firms can bid for the project and can even form joint ventures to develop the floating jetties," an MPT respectable said. "A pre-tender meeting will be held to finalize the draft tender, but the tender for the work will be floated only after the MoU is signed."
Detailed project reviews (DPR) have been prepared for the rivers Mandovi, Zuari and Cumbharjua while the DPRs for the remaining three nationwide waterways are beneath preparation.
Expenditure to broaden those waterways can be met from executive budgetary strengthen (GBS), extra budgetary resources such as bonds, MPT and executive of Goa.
The environmental impact evaluation has been prepared through WAPCOS Limited, a mini ratna corporate that gives consultancy services and which reviews to the Union ministry of water resources, river building and Ganga rejuvenation.
"The tender for the work has to be finalized and submitted to IWAI for its approval before the tender is floated to invite bids," a MPT respectable said.
