Monk accused of raping 19-year-old girl taken to NCH for potency tests

SURAT: Jain monk Acharya Shantisagar Maharaj (45), who is accused of raping a 19-year-old faculty scholar, was once brought to New Civil Hospital (NCH) through the police for efficiency take a look at and to collect samples for DNA profiling. Police had accrued samples of the lady on Tuesday for DNA profiling.


It took over six hours for the procedures to finish and police groups had to camp at the clinic until evening. Shantisagar was once brought to the clinic from Lajpore Central Jail at around 10.30 am and the process continued until four.30 pm on Wednesday. Shantisagar allegedly raped the lady scholar on October 1 after calling her to take blessings at an upashray in Nanpura. The survivor lodged the grievance with Athwalines police station on October 13 against Shantisagar, a resident of Mahavir Digambar Jain Temple in Nanpura. The rape survivor's oldsters and brother have been in the similar development, but in some other room, few metres away from the room the place she was once allegedly raped.


After the lady lodged grievance against the monk, some leaders of the Jain community came ahead in give a boost to of Shantisagar and alleged that the monk was once being framed to extort money through the survivor's oldsters.
