COIMBATORE: Customs officials at the Coimbatore International Airport have seized 0.435 grams of gold hidden in the stomach of a Sri Lankan national. The accused, Sathiyaseelan, arrived right here on a flight from Coimbatore on October 20.
A remark issued by means of the customs division stated the officials of the dep. stopped Sathiyaseelan based on suspicious movement and scanned him and his luggage the use of a metal detector. "There was some suspicious concealment in his stomach. So we took him to hospital," stated commissioner of customs G Sreenivasa Rao.
After feeding laxatives to Sathiyaseelan, 19 bits of gold have been retrieved on Sunday night, and the overall bit was retrieved on Monday morning. "A total of 0.435g gold has been retrieved from his abdomen which is worth Rs 13lakh. The tax of this consignment is Rs 1.69 lakh," stated Rao.
Rao stated, "This is the first time in my career I have seen this modus operandi being used for smuggling gold."
Since the price of the smuggled excellent was not more than Rs 20lakh so Sathiyaseelan would no longer be arrested. "Also, there are no previous records on him," stated Rao.
"We will impose a penalty on him once the investigation is over. We are trying to identify the person for whom Sathiyaseelan smuggled in the consignment," he added.
