THANE: Taking the festive celebrations beyond shut circle of relatives, a host of denizens have talented meals, toys and different necessities to strays who're under the care of or rescued by means of voluntary teams.
"People have been sending us the packets in the form of gifts for the furry ones. As we cater to around 80 animals each day and feed them we are always in need of food for them. Also, though some donate cooked food like rice and eggs, it does not last for more than a day, while the animal food packets which people send lasts longer. On a daily basis we need a minimum of 20 kg of food and so far we have received around 170 kg food packets," stated Aditi Nair, founder of Pet Owners and Animal Lovers (PAL).
Animal fans declare that as a substitute of spending cash on buying chocolates or presents for kin they prefer helping those who can not handle themselves.
"This year, our family is not celebrating the festival, so I wanted these animals to be a part of the festivity. I donated some food packets to make sure they do not go hungry. During Diwali many animals go into hiding as they are afraid of the loud cracker noises. Due to this they are not able to go out looking for food. But NGOs make sure that these animals are well fed," stated Usha Bisht, a resident of Majiwada.
The NGOs declare that they have got been receiving a number of calls from animal fans asking them as to what they need for the animal safe haven. "Many donors call to ask as to what the shelter and the hospital requires in order to take care of the animals. So we send out a wish list including feeding bowls, cat food pouches, medicines, cleaning material, food, etc," stated Nilesh Bhanage, founder of Plants and Animals Welfare Society (PAWS).
Apart from meals pieces some have even despatched lighting to those animal shelters. "Since I was a kid I used to always spend the festival with the 20 cats that I had and not burst crackers. Even today when I don't have a pet at home I make sure to not spend the money on lights that I send to the shelter homes. They too can decorate the place and the animals could have a good time too," stated Priyanla Aryamane Kale, animal lover.
