MSU students to monitor pollution

VADODARA: Students of M S University's Department of Environmental Studies with the lend a hand from workforce from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will carefully observe the air and sound air pollution levels in the city all the way through the two days of Diwali and New Year.

CPCB crew will train the BSc and MSc scholars and the information amassed all the way through the two days will probably be submitted to CPCB headquarter at New Delhi.


"Earlier, the air pollution levels were being measured based on PM10 micron levels. But CPCB has purchased four instruments to monitor PM2.5 micron levels. With the help of these instruments, a team of 30 students from our department will be voluntarily carry out the two day exercise to monitor the pollution and pollutants level in the city," stated professor Arun Arya, officiating head of the Department of Environmental Studies at MSU's Faculty of Science.


The teams will probably be measuring air air pollution at 3 spots including one spot within MSU campus (on the backside of geology division), another near Fatehgunj water tank and 3rd spot at Gotri (reverse Iskcon temple). CPCB will stay the tools, each and every costing round Rs 15 lakh, at those 3 spots whilst one instrument will probably be stored on standby.


Students of the department on October 12 monitored the noise levels in the city. "We had received normal results. While on regular days, the noise levels ranges between 50 and 60 decibel when fire crackers are burst, it reaches 90 to 100 decibel," stated Arya.
