Haven't watched it, but have a 'hunch': Karni Sena chief

GURUGRAM : The Rajput Karni Sena kept up its assault on filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his latest offering, the yet-to-be launched 'Padmavati', even if its chief admitted in public that he had not watched the movie but had a "hunch" what it was about.

In a press conference in Gurgaon to voice their protest in opposition to the movie, Sena founder Lokender Singh Kalvi termed the film "trash". "Bhansali had promised to show us the movie. He did not. As per Section 6 of the Cinematography Act, the makers cannot even release the trailer before approval from the Censor Board," he said. Kalvi also declared he had a hunch that there was an "attempt to depict intimate relations" between Alauddin Khilji, the 14th century Delhi sultan and Queen Padmavati (historians say Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi created the queen in an allegorical poem, but the Karni Sena insists she was a part of historical past, not mythology, and therefore an actual person).

Kalvi claimed he was the 37th descendant from Padmavati's line. "Historians say there is no Padmavati. Then who am I? A ghost?" he asked. The right wing group also justified manhandling Bhansali this year, pronouncing that they had the best to "respond to the insult meted out to their mother".

Calling actor Deepika Padukone a " naachnewali ", Kalvi said a threat made earlier this week of reducing off her nose were issued "in the heat of the moment". But he added: "We don't generally harm women but if they persist, this (alluding to nose cutting) is exactly what will happen," Kalvi said.

He also announced a national strike on December 1 - the day the film is to free up. Asked why they wish to protest before gazing the movie, he said, "Because we believe they (the filmmakers) are attempting to depict a romantic relationship between the two."
