UDHAGAMANDALAM: A 20-year-old female elephant died quickly after it was rescued from Moyar riverbed in Sigur range of forests in the Nilgiris on Monday. Forest officers discovered the elephant lying on the riverbed with chest damage.
Forest veterinarian hooked up to the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) Dr Vijayaraghavan stated, "We found that the elephant was unable get up. With the help of a kumki and forest staff, we rescued the elephant." He stated, "The elephant had chest injury. The elephant might have fought with other animal and sustained injuries."
Preliminary postmortem reports printed that the elephant's forelimb was fractured, stated Vijayaraghavan. Proper remedy was rendered to the animal. But the elephant died with out responding to remedy, stated the veterinarian. Later, the carcass was left within the forest for natural decay.
