Minister bats for reservation for Kannadigas in private sector

Dharwad: Delivering his Kannada Rajyotsava message at the district stadium in Dharwad on Wednesday, district minister Vinay Kulkarni mentioned that the state executive is serious about introducing reservation for Kannadigas in non-public sector undertakings.

"The government is gearing up to bring reforms in the state in a bid to build Nava Karnataka'," Kulkarni said. "Youngsters apart from their studies, have to show interest in promoting the Kannada language, culture and literature," he added.

"Today, Karnataka is making giant strides in several fields and has emerged as the major destination for IT and BT. However, along with the growth of other sectors, the development of language and culture is the demand of the hour. The youngsters should feel proud of their state and language and work for its growth", the minister said.

"To protect the language, the government has issued a circular directing Kendriya Vidyalayas and schools teaching CBSE and ICSE to teach Kannada as the first or second language from Standard 1 to 10. This rule will be implemented from the next academic year," Kulkarni said.

The Kannada Development Authority has submitted an offer to the government for the reservation for Kannadigas in non-public companies and industries.
