MP backs 'vindaloo visas' to plug curry chef shortage in UK

LONDON: Britain's Liberal Democrat celebration chief Sir Vince Cable has known as on the govt to introduce brief "vindaloo" visas to deal with severe team of workers shortages being faced by curry eating places in the country.

The brief visas can be legitimate for a 12 months and open to cooks from the Indian sub-continent to help deal with the disaster dealing with the UK's curry trade, Cable said.

"We need more urgent measures, including what has been dubbed a 'vindaloo visa', to save the nation's favourite cuisine," said the Liberal Democrat MP for Twickenham on the British Curry Awards in London on Monday night time.

The estimated 3.6-billion-pound curry trade, comprising eating places with roots in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, are feared to be closing at a price of 4 per week because of a clampdown on visas used by those eating places to herald cooks from the Indian sub-continent.

"If there was any doubt beforehand, the shortage of curry chefs is now a crisis... The curry industry is rightly aggrieved by Brexiteer false promises that a vote to Leave [the European Union] would mean more workers, including chefs, from South Asia could come into the country, because there would be fewer EU workers. This has not materialised," Cable said.

According to a British Curry Awards analysis, 50 in step with cent of all curry eating places - round 6,000 - are anticipated to completely shut down within 10 years. The workforce, headed by founder Enam Ali, has written to the UK govt previously calling for tightly-controlled brief visas for cooks to return to the UK and educate native team of workers in the traditional taste of cooking curry.

The Liberal Democrat chief known as on British Prime Minister Theresa May to revisit their proposals in order that "our curry restaurants can bring expert chefs to the UK and train the next generation of curry cooks".
