Rare bird seen in Coimbatore

The Oriental dwarf kingfisher, frequently found in the broad-leaved cover forest of the Western Ghats, has been spotted near a lake in Coimbatore. Vijay kumar Krishnamurthy had chanced upon the rare fowl near the Krishnampathi lake. "I was surprised to see the bird at wetlands inside the city. It is a forest bird. I tried confirming it with scientists, who wanted photographic evidence to identify it," he advised TOI. The small fowl, which is 13-14cm long, primarily feeds on fish and bugs.
