RCom, Aircel accuse Big 3 telcos of trying to poach subscribers through misleading campaigns

MUMBAI: Aircel and Reliance Communications have accused greater rivals Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular and Vodafone India of looking to poach subscribers through misleading campaigns that claimed the smaller telcos were shutting down their total and endeavor voice companies, respectively.

Both Aircel and RCom, struggling to stay afloat after attempts at merging their companies fell through recently, have complained to the telecom division (DoT) and the regulator, looking for action towards the three carrier suppliers.

RCom and its unit GCX, which runs the endeavor trade, mentioned Friday it has also served a 'Cease & Desist' realize on some rivals for running campaigns that say the Reliance Enterprise voice services might be discontinued. RCom did not identify the rivals, however a company source , asking not to be named, mentioned notices were issued towards the three greater telcos.

RCom is shutting its retail wi-fi trade via the top of this month. Aircel informed Trai that the massive telecom carrier suppliers were 'resorting to unlawful soliciting which is anti-competitive, unethical and violates the regulatory framework', and has led to them 'irreparable damage'.

An organization spokesperson at India's No. 1 telco mentioned: "Airtel adheres to the highest standards of regulatory compliance and respects all its fellow operators." Vodafone did not remark without delay, however invited users to enroll in its community.

Idea Cellular and Aircel did not reply to ET's queries.
