SC allows Karti Chidambaram to visit UK, imposes conditions

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday conditionally allowed Karti Chidambaram to seek advice from UK from December 1 to December 10 for his daughter's admission at a school there.

The top courtroom imposed conditions on Karti's travel, asking him to furnish an endeavor that he's going to go back as directed.

The courtroom is listening to CBI's appeal challenging Madras High Court order staying the federal government's lookout notice in opposition to Karti. The CBI had on September 1 advised the highest courtroom that there have been "good, cogent" reasons for issuing the lookout notice.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had asked the CBI to apprise it of its stand on allowing the request of Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, to move abroad for a couple of days.

The bench had steered that CBI should interrogate Karti and allow him to move abroad for Four-Five days with some conditions.


The CBI FIR, lodged on May 15, had alleged irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas finances to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when Karti's father P. Chidambaram used to be the Union finance minister in Congress-led UPA executive.


A lookout notice issued via the CBI on July 18 prevents Karti from travelling abroad without the investigating agency's permission.


Earlier, the apex courtroom had said that Karti would no longer be allowed to leave India without subjecting himself to an investigation in the case. The courtroom had then stayed the prime courtroom order placing on cling the LoC in opposition to Karti.
