Starting Nov 18, Air India to fly to Singapore from city

Coimbatore: Air India Express CEO Okay Shyam Sundar on Wednesday introduced the plans to perform a flight to Singapore and Delhi from town, thrice per week. The first flight to Singapore will take off from Coimbatore airport at 11.15pm on November 18.

Air India had prior to now few months introduced operations to Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai from town. The Kongu Global Forum, representing the western districts of the state, however, had on a number of instances approached the union aviation minister, Ashok Gajapathi Raju, difficult Air India flights to Dubai.

"There are no slots available in Dubai. Singapore is an equally good market. Our operation from Madurai has been successful and we hope to repeat the success here as well," Shyam Sundar mentioned.

The flight, he mentioned, will fly to town from Delhi after which go away for Singapore. On return, it's going to land in Coimbatore first after which go away for Delhi. "The flight will also act as a hopping option for passengers, who want to fly to western countries. We are exploring options to label the baggage from Coimbatore as well," the Air India Express CEO mentioned.


Industry associations within the city, meanwhile, handed a memorandum to Shyam Sundar seeking a few more operations from town. They urged him to perform the flight day by day to Singapore and introduce a morning flight to Delhi and Chennai to help passengers get connections to the west and businesspersons commute to Chennai for meetings. The associations also wanted a flight to Pune by way of Bengaluru and some other one to Vijaywada by way of Chennai.


"We have taken note of all the requirements. Presently, we have some constraints like availability of aircrafts and slots. As opportunities open up, we will look at offering more operations from/to Coimbatore," mentioned the regional director of Air India (Chennai), MV Joshi.


Travel agents, on their part, sought a flight to Bangkok declaring each 5th buyer was a flyer to the Thailand's capital. "We will consider it. But, Thailand is a seasonal market and only Indians take a round trip. In Singapore, we have ethnic population too. So, it is a two-way market," Shyam Sundar mentioned.
