HUBBALLI: A 72-year-old man on a motorcycle fell into a pit dug via the water board for restore and died of serious head accidents on Thursday. Sharachandra Ganjal, a farmer, was once on his strategy to Siddharoodh Mutt when he fell into the pit at Tadapatri Galli, close to Murusavirmutt.
Many roads in the city had been dug up via the water board, corporation and even private firms for restore work or to put cables. Residents said no barricade or signboard was once put up at Tadapatri Galli to warn commuters. The water board said it's going to conduct an inquiry and take action if any lapse is located.
Ganjal, a resident of Ghantikeri, used to visit Siddharoodh Mutt every morning. "My uncle would go through Tadapatri Galli from Ghantikeri on his M-80 bike. On Thursday morning too, he left home for the mutt on his two-wheeler. Without knowing that the road ahead of him was dug up, he drove through and fell into the pit. As there were no barricades or boards around the pit, he could not brake in time," said Girish, his nephew.
The pit was once Eight-10toes deep and Ganjal suffered serious head accidents. He died right away. "We came to know of the incident when we received a call from police. Who is responsible for this death," asked Girish. Another relative, Siddarayappa, said had the authorities put up barricades or signages, Ganjal do not need died. "Most of the roads are dug up and not restored properly. Authorities should be held responsible for such lapses and compensation should be given," he said.
Vasudeva Utawale and Pradeep, each residents of Tadapatri Galli, said the water board dug up the street on Wednesday morning to fix leakage in the pipeline. Neither police nor the water board put up a board or barricade to caution other people. "The pit was not visible from even a few metres," Utawale said. Residents said officials put up a board and barricade handiest after their lapse claimed the lifetime of a person .
