'BJP seen as pro-Hindutva, why would anyone prefer a clone?': Jaitley's dig at Rahul

NEW DELHI: Union minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jailtey on Saturday asserted his celebration's 'Hindutva' roots and said those parading their newfound Hindu piety have been not anything however "clones".

"BJP has always been seen as a pro-Hindutva party and if someone wants to mimic us, I do not have any complaint. But there is a basic principle in politics, if an original is available why would anyone prefer a clone?" Jailtey told mediapersons in Surat.

The finance minister's barbed remarks have been in keeping with Congress leader Kapil Sibal's fee that Prime Minister Narendra Modi can not be known as a Hindu as he had totally embraced fundamentalist ideology. It was once also a sly dig at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who has been on a temple-visiting spree in Gujarat ahead of the assembly election later this month.

One such pilgrimage of Rahul's sparked an enormous furore in the last few days, after it was once reported that the Congress leader's title was once allegedly listed as a 'non-Hindu' customer on the famed Somnath Temple. The BJP fulminated against Rahul and asked him to come clean on his religious leanings, while the Congress, in injury keep watch over mode, proclaimed Rahul a devout 'janeu dhaari Hindu'.

This was once buttressed by Rahul's own assertion that he got here from a family of 'Shiv bhakts', however chose not to discuss his religion publicly as it was once a "personal" matter, a remark at odds along with his fresh streak of visiting 20-odd temples in poll-bound Gujarat during the last several weeks.

In light of the BJP sweeping the UP civic polls and the Congress celebration's dismal show, Jaitley said the grand outdated celebration is at the cusp of extinction and will meet a bitter defeat in Gujarat, where the saffron celebration has ruled for the remaining 20 years.

"While BJP has maintained its credibility, Congress is slowly becoming extinct. The results haven't been out yet and they have already started making excuses for their defeat," he remarked when asked about allegations of EVM tampering.

He added that ahead of the BJP got here to energy in Gujarat, there was once rampant "social polarisation" in the state.

Coming down heavily at the erstwhile UPA regime headed by Manmohan Singh, finance minister Arun Jaitley known as it the "most corrupt" and "leaderless" govt in Indian historical past.

"The 10 years of governance before Modi Ji's govt was the most corrupt government we have ever seen. It was a leaderless government. It was said that the then PM is a PM in office but not in power," he said.

The finance minister said the UPA dispensation was once plagued by coverage paralysis, which adversely affected India's growth and financial system. The turnaround began when the Modi-led BJP got here to energy in 2014 and thru reforms and elimination of red-tapism, the Indian financial system is now on an upward trajectory, he said.

"India was part of fragile five economies in the world and at one point discussions were going on whether India will be out of BRICS. Foreign investments had completely stopped at a point in India. Today, we have come up by 42 positions in the World Bank's ranking of Ease of doing business," Jaitley said.
