DIBRUGARH: A 70-year old lady used to be killed and several other others injured by means of a leopard at Majkopouhuwa village in Naharkatia Jeypore space of Dibrugarh district right here on Friday. The animal used to be later bludgeoned to dying by means of angry locals with sticks and sharp weapons after an extensive chase.
According to experiences, the victim identified as Makon Gogoi used to be combing her hair in the front backyard of her house in the morning when a leopard appeared out of nowhere and pounced on her. The lady used to be taken to the local hospital with deep neck injuries however may not be stored.
Hundreds of locals, armed with sticks and machettes, then went looking for the large cat. The leopard unexpectedly emerged from the tea trees and attacked the search staff injuring five of them. Three locals, identified as Pradip Gogoi, Jitu Gogoi and Upen Gogoi, had been seriously injured and admitted to the hospital. Two other individuals also suffered minor injuries in the attack.
Following the incident, the agitated local other people clashed with wooded area workforce when they arrived on the village. According to locals, the leopard has been preying on their farm animals for the past one month.
According to wildlife professionals, leopards, unlike other carnivores, continue to exist the perimeter areas of forests. Due to rapid shrinking of wooded area duvet, the sprawling tea gardens positioned close to wooded area areas continuously act as transient residing places for the large cats. The lack of their natural habitats continuously compels the leopards to project into human settlements looking for meals.
