Belagavi: The District (Rural) Congress Committee, led via its president Vinay Navalagatti, staged a protest here on Saturday, challenging the arrest of Union minister of state Anantkumar Hegde for his alleged statement on converting the Constitution. They additionally demanded that Hegde be stripped of his position.
Party workers burnt Hegde's effigy at Rani Channamma Circle and chanted slogans towards him. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner.
Party leaders Rajasalim Kashimnavar, Jayashri Malagi, Kartik Patil, Anand Chopra, Salim Khatib, Nazir Shaikh, Yuvaraj Kadam and Ashok Angadi have been present.
