Facade lift falls from 17th floor, worker dies, three more injured

GURUGRAM: A hoist, or makeshift lift, used throughout construction of a highrise's facade, snapped and fell from the 17th ground of a construction in Gurgaon's Sector 72, killing a 20-year-old labourer and injuring three others who have been perched on it at the time.

The coincidence ended in panic and among staff and brought on protests at the web page as a mob, joined via native villagers, went on a rampage.

An FIR has been registered in opposition to construction company Advance India Project Limited (AIPL) which is in charge of the under-construction mission, police said.

Tanjum Ahemad, who was once from West Bengal, died on the spot. The three injured staff are Liyakat Ansari, Rakesh and Hussain, who have been plastering the facade

Tanjum got buried under construction particles after the autumn and his useless body was once pulled out via fellow staff, police said. The injured staff are being treated at Ekta medical institution in Badshapur. According to medical institution government, two are vital while Liyakat is stable. Police have saved Tanjum's body within the mortuary and are within the means of informing his family.

The coincidence happened at round 10am, leading to a protests at the web page. Workers and villagers smashed automobiles parked within the space and ransacked the AIPL web page place of job. There have been some company officers present at the spot who have been additionally targeted but they managed to escape unhurt.

Police have been informed and staff demanded motion in opposition to the company for risking their lives via not providing them with proper safety arrangements. "We have been asking for security measures for many days but the company never heard our pleas. They did not care about our security or our lives. We want strict action against them," said Raju, probably the most labourers.

"Rather than helping the injured workers, the company officials fled the site. The company did not follow any security norm and did not give us labour rights. Its negligence has shattered families and the officials should be punished," said another protester.

A police team led via inspector Vishnu Kumar, SHO, Badshahpur police station, reached the spot after the coincidence. The protesters calmed down after the police assured them motion could be taken.


On the criticism of Liyakat, an FIR was once registered in opposition to AIPL under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC at Badshahpur police station. "Rakesh is still critical as he has got major head injuries and the right leg of Rakesh is almost crushed. Both are in ICU. But Liyakat is stable now," said Dr P S Bikal, director of Ekta medical institution.


Despite a number of attempts to touch company officers at AIPL's Sector 54 place of job, they may not be reached.


"We have registered a case against the company and will soon serve them a notice to join the investigation. Action will be taken as per the law," said inspector Kumar.
