Five pontoon bridges, 15 ghats for Mela devotees

ALLAHABAD: Crores of pilgrims are expected to consult with Magh Mela commencing from January 2. The Mela management claimed that 15 ghats were set up for the devotees to take holy dip.

Major rush is anticipated between January 14 and 22, including Makar Sankranti (January 14), Mauni Amavasya (January 16) and Basant Panchami (January 22). The mela will end on February 13 on the instance of Mahashivratri.


The mela management has set December 23 as closing date to complete all the tasks. The authorities have set up five pontoon bridges at Mahavirji, Triveni, Gangoli Shivala, Old GT Road and Kali Road for the devotees to move from one financial institution to different. This time for the easier transportation, chequered plates were laid down on the mela campus and 95% work has been completed.


District magistrate Suhas L Y stated that mela is spread in a space of round 1,797 bigha. Last year, it was once 1,432 bighas. Devotees will get sufficient water for holy dip as 4,000 cusec water is being released each day from Narora dam from December 12. Around 1,000 cusec water is being released from Tehri Dam from December five.


The mela management has set up as many as 26 honest worth shops. LPG distribution centres were also set up through gas companies. For safety, the authorities have divided all of the mela space into two zones and 6 sectors. A total of 12 police stations, 36 police outposts, 3 wireless grids and 12 fireplace stations have also been set up.


The mela police have put in a network of 75 CCTV units on prominent routes. ATS, LIU, PAC, bomb defusing squad, sniffer dog and anti-sabotage team will also be deployed.
