MoS Railways Rajen Gohain criticizes Odisha government for land acquisition delay

BHUBANESWAR: Blame sport between the Centre and the state over acquisition of land for railway initiatives within the state resurfaced after minister of state for Railways Rajen Gohain on Saturday criticized Odisha govt for taking such a lot of time in obtaining land for railways initiatives.
Gohain while chatting with media individuals here mentioned NDA govt has sanctioned Rs 5100 crore in the annual budget for building of railways in Odisha. "Work is underway in several projects. Some of these are not taking off due to delay in land acquisition process conducted by the state government. We could not work due to this problem. But there is no dearth of fund to carry out these projects," he added.

The minister steered the state govt to procure land speedily and hand it over to the Railways. "After getting required land, Railways will complete its work within the deadline," he added.

When newshounds requested in regards to the explicit held-up initiatives, minister failed to answer it. He confronted awkward situation because of lack of data with him. "I should have kept this information with me, but now I don't have," he mentioned this while searching for his officer.


Later in a public assembly, Gohain mentioned the state will have to at least give up 80 in step with cent of land of the project to start the work. "For example, if the state provides land for 80 km rail line of a 100-km line project, we will complete it within a year by investing huge amount of money," he added.


State delivery minister Nrushingha Charan Sahu lashed out on the Centre via saying that the railways will have to whole the work on the land to be had with it instead of indulging in blame sport. "The BJP leaders have no other jobs except blaming the state government. Why they do not start work on the land given by the state government? We have almost completed acquiring land for some important projects like Haridaspur-Paradip, Talcher-Bimalagarh and Angul-Sukinda new lines, but the Railways has not completed the works," he added.


He mentioned the railway is but to sanction the Jeypore-Malkangiri project. "We provide land for free of cost for some rail projects. Even we also share 50 per cent cost of some projects. They allocate Rs 5100 crore to state and then take most of this without spending. We are concerned for the development of railway lines in the state. But the Centre is not interested for our growth," he added.
