Shorn of key departments, Gujarat Dy CM Nitin Patel sparks crisis; Hardik Patel says join Congress

AHMEDABAD: Deputy chief minister of Gujarat Nitin Patel, who has been sulking after being stripped of key finance and concrete building portfolios, induced a crisis in state BJP on Saturday when he insisted that he would not join workplace till his "honour is restored".
"My fight is for prestige and not post. My respect and honour should be restored in the party. I have voiced my grievance before the high command and have faith they will take the right decision," stated Patel.

Patel's revolt changed into a rallying point for Patidars as BJP leaders from the community in addition to his key detractors, together with Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) chief Hardik Patel, sponsored the DyCM.

Hardik, who has targeted Patel all the way through the quota agitation for past two years and all the way through election campaigning, stated: "If Nitinbhai along with 10 MLAs is ready to leave BJP, then I will talk to Congress to get him a good position. If BJP does not respect him, he should leave the party."

Patel stepped out of his area only within the evening for a gathering at BJP chief Babu Jamnadas Patel's area which used to be attended through senior BJP leaders and ministers Kaushik Patel, Bhupendrasinh Chudasama and Pradipsinh Jadeja.

"The meeting was fruitful and Nitinbhai's grievance will be positively addressed in next two days. All will be fine," stated Chudasama, who stated Congress should forestall dreaming about taking advantage of the interior discord in BJP.

While Patel's rebellious posturing fuelled speculation that he would possibly join Congress, he himself clarified that he's going to not surrender BJP. "I will not resign from the party. I spoke with BJP national president Amit Shah and will divulge the details when the time is right," stated Patel. However, his supporters say he would possibly surrender the government whilst proceeding as a BJP MLA if his demands don't seem to be met.

Sardar Patel Group (SPG) chief Lalji Patel declared 'Mehsana Bandh' on Monday if Patel's honour isn't restored. The DyCM hails from Mehsana and lately won the seat with over 7,000 votes. "Nitinbhai was CM candidate in 2016 when Anandiben resigned. We declare Mehsana bandh on Monday and BJP should brace for a major protest from the community if this humiliation of Patidars continues," he stated.

Congress too seized Patel's discontent to fish in BJP's stricken waters. Congress chief and Junagadh MLA Virji Thummar stated that doors of Congress have been open for Patel. "If Nitin Patel joins the party with 10 MLAs, we will make him the CM of Gujarat," Thummar stated.

While sitting BJP MLAs stayed away, senior Patel BJP leaders like Narottam Patel met the Dy CM and stated his honour should be restored. "The party has neglected Nitinbhai and this is unacceptable. Nitin is a senior leader and deserves all respect," Narottam told TOI.

While CM Vijay Rupani refused to comment on Nitin's resentment, state BJP president Jitu Vaghani stated: "I am in Bhavnagar and will meet Nitinbhai on Saturday night on Sunday morning. Nitinbhai is our most respected leader and we will resolve all issues internally. Nitinbhai will never think of supporting Congress."

Anandiben, who herself used to be forced to relinquish the top submit through birthday party, stated: "Nitin Patel is a senior leader and he should represent his grievance to BJP national president Amit Shah and PM Narendra Modi."
