Koppal: Tension prevailed in Hatti village on Monday after the nameplate of Dr B R Ambedkar was once defaced.
Dalit organizations, together with Ambedakr Yuvak Mandal, Jai Bheem Yuvasene, Madiga Jagrati Horat Samiti, Valmiki Naik Sangh, Anjuman Committee, Jai Karnataka and Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, protested via atmosphere tyres on fire and blockading the Hatti-Raichur Road. According to them, some unidentified youths, who had been celebrating the New Year, defaced the nameplate near Basaveshwara cinema corridor.
Traffic movement on the busy highway was once disrupted because of the protest. Business establishments near the junction remained closed.
The protesters urged the government to arrest the culprits immediately. The protest was once withdrawn after tahsildar Chamaraj Patil, additional SP S B Patil and DSP S H Subedar confident them of motion in opposition to the miscreants.
