Doctors accuse Gurgaon hospital of wrong diagnosis

GURUGRAM: A city-based physician couple have levelled allegations of negligence against Medanta.
Dr RK Jain, an eye fixed surgeon, has filed a grievance on the CM Window, accusing the clinic of "wrong diagnosis and medication" in the remedy of his 55-year-old spouse Reena Jain, a gynaecologist. Jain, a resident of Sector 14, claimed that his spouse was once admitted to the emergency ward of Medanta clinic on November eight remaining 12 months after she complained of fever and critical chest and frame pain.

After multiple tests, medical doctors at Medanta on November 11 mentioned she was once affected by pneumonitis and pyelonephritis, and administered drugs for a similar, in step with Jain. However, Jain, who runs a few hospitals in the city, claimed her situation deteriorated after that. Jain mentioned he then consulted a physician from Delhi's Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on November 13, who really helpful an MRI test.

Jain claimed on his insistence, medical doctors at Medanta performed the test on November 14 that confirmed epidural abscess in the backbone (an accumulation of pus). The same day, a backbone surgical operation was once performed on the affected person. She remained in the clinic for some other seven days. On November 23, she was once shifted to some other private clinic. She was once discharged on December 6.


In his grievance filed on December 27, Jain alleged medical doctors at Medanta didn't diagnose this number one disease (epidural abscess) even after carrying out a number of tests. "Due to the medical negligence, my wife suffered extensive damage in her lungs, for which she had to be put on ventilator for a long period," he alleged. "My wife suffered infection due to the delay in the actual treatment and had to be given antifungal medication, which cost me Rs 2.5 lakh extra. Besides, she suffered due to the toxic effects of the wrong medications she was given initially."


"The complaint has been received and an inquiry will be conducted in the matter," mentioned Dr Pradeep Sharma, principal medical officer, Gurgaon.


A Medanta spokesperson mentioned, "She was initially treated at her own clinic (hospital) and was brought to Medanta when her condition deteriorated badly. She was found to have untreated diabetes, bilateral lung pneumonia, liver and kidney dysfunction and infection with bacteria. She was also found to have pus near her spinal cord. She was operated for the drainage of pus and discharged on November 23. The doctors discussed her medical condition with her family on a regular basis. It was only when the family discovered that her health expenditure are not going to be covered by her insurance firm that they decided to move her to another hospital. We deny all allegations."
