Education is basic requirement for a person, says governor

DHARMAPURI: Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Saturday wired on the significance of education saying it was the basic requirement for a person to make himself/herself economically and socially useful to the society.

He was within the district to take part within the Diamond jubilee celebrations of Thiyagi Subramaniya Siva Memorial Government Higher Secondary School at Papparapatti. On Sunday, the governor will take stock of Swachh Bharat Mission across the district.

After unveiling the memorial front and pillar on the school, Purohit stated, "The school is named after the great freedom fighter Subramaniya Siva. His name evokes memories of courage and sacrifice by the freedom fighters of the 19th and 20th centuries." Subramaniya Siva set up an ashram at Papparapatti after he reduced in size leprosy.

The governor stated the nation required lakhs of younger men and women who can give a contribution to quite a lot of fields including generation, medicine, armed forces and teaching career. "India is fast emerging as one of the global leaders. It has all the resources to become the 'jagath guru' of the world. For that to happen, the country should be economically strong, prosperous, culturally vibrant and socially united," he added.

Dharmapuri district collector Ok Vivekanandhan welcomed the collection, whilst upper education minister Ok P Anbalagan and sports and formative years welfare minister P Balakrishna Reddy delivered keynote addresses. Hundreds of college scholars, lecturers and villagers participated within the event.
