NEW DELHI: The SC on Monday agreed to listen to Malegaon blast accused Lt Col Shrikant Purohit's plea for quashing his prosecution below the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and sought reaction from the Maharashtra executive and National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The NIA, which took over the probe from Maharashtra's Anti-Terrorism Squad , gave a clean chit to Sadhvi Pragya.


Purohit, the first serving Army officer to be arrested on an apprehension charge, was once hooked up with army intelligence and internal terrorism (insurgency actions) when he was once arrested through the ATS in connection with the bomb assaults on Muslim targets allegedly carried out through Hindutva radicals to avenge the deaths of Hindus in a wave of jihadi terror assaults.
