No fees to be charged for students opting Odia in degree courses

BHUBANESWAR: In a bid to promote Odia language, the upper schooling department has issued a letter to the principals of the federal government schools asking them to not rate charges rather then hostel charges from students studying Odia as optionally available and honours topics in Plus III degree.
This course will come into effect from this educational 12 months 2018-19. "Students opted for Odia language in Plus III will not pay fees except the hostel dues," said Srikant Prusty, additional secretary of upper schooling department, in his letter to the principals.

On December 26 remaining 12 months, the state cabinet chaired by chief minister Naveen Patnaik at Puri had taken several selections to promote Odia language. It had determined to waive charges for studying Odia on the graduate and post-graduate degree in schools and universities. It had also taken several different selections together with conducting a world conference on Odia language in each and every five years.


The department carried out the decision by issuing a course on Friday to the schools to waive the fees. The contemporary course will help around 30,000 students of different schools of the state. Normally, the schools gather between Rs 1500 and Rs 2,000 as admission charges from the students, legit resources said.


Students hailed the step taken by the state government. Rajat Parida, a second 12 months Odia honours student of Rajdhani College here, said it is going to scale back the weight at the poor students. "Hundreds of poor students face difficulties to pay the admission and other college fees. But this decision will give them a sigh of relief. Now more students will choose this course," he added.


The cabinet has also licensed a plan to ease the standards for purchasing Byasakabi Fakir Mohan scholarship for college kids. The government has began the method to provide the Fakir Mohan Senapati scholarship to Plus II and Plus III students securing high mark in Odia. They are entitled to get Rs 20,000 as scholarship quantity.


The state government is making plans to increase choice of lecturers in Odia departments in schools and universities and facilitate extra analysis in this box. The government may even organise workshops in schools and universities to promote Odia language and literature. It will give emphasis on translation of Odia books to different languages and give prizes to the folks or organization for selling the language.
