Odisha govt seeks explanation from OSMCL on supply of anti-rabies vaccine to AIIMS

BHUBANESWAR: The state executive has sought a proof from the state PSU Odisha State Medical Corporation Limited (OSMCL) on why it overturned a decision of the state executive relating to supply of anti-rabies vaccine (ARV) and rabies immunoglobulin to All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar.

The state executive had issued a letter to the corporation on March 23 remaining 12 months relating to opening of Anti-Rabies Centre on the AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Even the federal government had decided that the OSMCL will provide ARV, rabies immunoglobulin and different logistics according to the requirement of the centre.

However, opposite to the federal government order, the board of directors (BOD) of the corporation in its 14th BOD assembly has decided that it might not be feasible to give you the required medicines in regular basis to the AIIMS.

"It is therefore, requested that it may be clarified as to why such decision contrary to the government decision has been taken by board of directors of the corporation in the 14th BOD meeting of OMSCL as intimated vide letter referred to supra with detailed justification in this regard for taking further action," stated further secretary of well being department, G G Debata, in an urgent letter issued to the corporation on Saturday.


Archana Patnaik, OSMCL managing director, stated she has gained the letter from the well being department. "We will discuss about the issue in detail and submit our clarification on this regard immediately," she added.


Sources stated the OMSCL had decided in its BOD assembly that it may procure medicine or vaccine for well being institutes or hospitals of the state. It can't supply the drugs or vaccine to different institutes in an ordinary basis, stated the resources.


AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, is but to open an Anti-Rabies Centre. Several folks come to this nationwide institute for remedy of canine chunk cases. But they return to Capital Hospital for remedy. The medical institution will get hundreds of canine chunk cases once a year, however the medical institution can't treat them because of loss of ARV.


"We don't have Anti-Rabies Centre here. If the state supplies us ARV, we will start the centre," stated Sachidananda Mohanty, clinical superintendent of AIIMS.
