Ukkadam flyover design has been changed, minister says

COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu rural and municipal administration minister S P Velumani on Wednesday mentioned the design of the Ukkadam flyover in Coimbatore has been altered.
TOI reported it on Wednesday that the design of the Ukkadam flyover had been changed, and activists raised fear over it declaring that the brand new design would now not serve any purpose.

The minister inspected the soil trying out paintings on Avinashi highway flyover on Wednesday. He mentioned the state government had allotted Rs 950 crore for the development of the flyover and Rs 65 lakh had been sanctioned for the soil trying out procedure.

"We will allot more funds we required," he mentioned.

Talking in regards to the metro rail undertaking introduced for the city, he mentioned that the government was in talks with the Japan International Cooperation Agency and Germany's cooperative company to enforce the undertaking.


"Work on Avinashi road flyover and metro rail project will go on at the same time and will not affect the other," he mentioned when asked how both tasks would be applied in the similar stretch.


The Ukkadam flyover will probably be 1.7 km long. The state government has allotted Rs 121.82 crore for the development of the 4 lane flyover and Rs 88.61 crore for land acquisition. The flyover would have two grade separators.


Highways officials mentioned that tenders for the undertaking had been floated and would be opened on February five.
