66 couples tie the knot in mass wedding in Greater Noida

GREATER NOIDA : The district administration on Saturday organised a mass marriage ceremony of 66 couples on the YMCA club ground in Greater Noida.
In the programme, 21 Muslim couples and 45 Hindu couples had been married within the presence of government officials and political leaders below the Mukhyamantri Samoohik Vivaah Yojana — a mass marriage scheme where Rs 35,000 is given to every couple, including home goods as presents.

In October 2017, the Uttar Pradesh govt had launched this scheme to assist folks belonging to beneath poverty line. Under the scheme, Rs 20,000 is deposited within the bride’s checking account, Rs 10,000 is spent on presents and Rs five,000 spent on bills incurred within the marriage ceremony arrangements.

District magistrate B N Singh stated the administration had made elaborate arrangements for the mass marriage ceremony. “We had called 5 Kazis and 5 Brahmin priests to accomplish marry the Muslims and Hindus respectively as in line with their rituals. The programme used to be carried out smoothly and we're glad,” he stated.

The presents given to the couple included a suitcase, blanket, sari, iron box, girls’s purse, make-up box, vessels, stitching device and a packet of goodies. Some reisdents and organisations additionally generously contributed to the event. The YMCA Club did not price any money for renting its premises for the event.


Navi Kumar, a labourer with Honda, married Savita on the event. “My members of the family stated the district administration used to be establishing a mass marriage ceremony and giving out presents. Since we had to marry, we decided to marry this way. It is excellent that politicians and officials of the district administration attended our marriage ceremony,” he stated.


Ravindra Kumar, a resident of Behlolpur, married Babita Devi. Kumar, a motive force, stated Babita’s family had proposed the theory to take part within the mass marriage ceremony.


Union minister and GB Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma, Dadri MLA Tejpal Nagar, Jewar MLA Thakur Dhirendra Singh, DIG/SSP Love Kumar and other officials additionally attended the programme and blessed the newly-married couples.
