ALLAHABAD: Seeking to clamp down on any violation of the Model Code of Conduct online, Allahabad police have roped in sleuths of the surveillance and IT (Information Technology) cellular to keep an eye fixed on social networking accounts being maintained via supporters of applicants who're contesting the Phulpur bypoll.
The move comes within the wake of a marketing campaign launched via the supporters of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed om social media to garner extra votes for him, after the previous MP filed his nomination for the impending Phulpur byelection recently.
SP (Crime) Brajesh Mishra mentioned, "Police are monitoring social media sites like Facebook and Twitter and have made it clear that those found violating the norms laid down by the Model Code of Conduct or posting any objectionable article, poster or photograph would be booked under appropriate sections."
Mishra also mentioned that whilst supporters may just take to social media for campaigning for his or her leaders but if any article, poster or submit is located hurting the emotions of any religion, caste or group, the police would be taking strict motion towards them.
District election officials mentioned that the target of the exercise was to deter any somebody from posting anything abusive or inflammatory on social media, which might disrupt peace.
"There is a difference between abuse and criticism. People are free to criticise a political personality or party. But posting abusive content or vulgar and morphed pictures of leaders on social networking sites could be objectionable. We have chalked out parameters and monitoring the sites," mentioned a senior police authentic on condition of anonymity.
