Congress releases list of 23 candidates for Nagaland polls

NEW DELHI: More than per week after it collectively determined with other events in opposition to contesting the Nagaland Assembly polls, the Congress on Tuesday launched its record of 23 candidates for the election.

The Congress has pop out with the record at the penultimate day of submitting of nominations for the February 27 polls. Of all its candidates, 22 belong to the schedule tribes (ST) community.


Besides Congress, the other events which had signed the resolution in opposition to contesting the election of their bid for a solution to the protracted Naga insurgency issue, integrated Naga People's Front, Nationalist Democratic Peoples' Party, Nagaland Congress, United Nagaland Democratic Party, Aam Admi Party, National Congress Party, Lok Jan Party, Janata Dal (United) and National People's Party.


The uncertainty over the election was nearly over after the BJP launched its record of candidates on Saturday.


The Congress too had appointed former Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki because the birthday party's observer for the election. Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi, former state minister Pradyut Bordoloi and previous AICC secretary Praveen Davar were appointed the birthday party's observers for the polls.


"The BJP candidates have not filed the nomination for the polls yet. Since it is the last day of filing nominations, we will be watchful tomorrow," a Congress supply said, requesting anonymity
