Relics of St Anthony of Padua to be brought to Goa in March for 3 days

PANAJI: The holy relics of St Anthony of Padua will probably be delivered to Goa firstly of subsequent month for a 3 day pilgrimage.
The two authentic sacred relics— a fragment of St Anthony’s petrified flesh in a gorgeous bust and his smallest rib in a casket—brought from Rome, will probably be kept at Monte de Guirim and Navelim for veneration. While the primary relic—the petrified flesh in a bust— will probably be kept for public veneration, the rib within the casket will probably be used to bless the devoted.



The St Anthony Capuchin Province, Goa, jumped at the possibility of bringing the relics to the state. During this pilgrimage in India, the relics also are being taken to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Meghalaya.


Devotees can venerate the relics on March 2 (morning to night time), and March three (morning to afternoon) at Alverno Friary, Monte de Guirim, and on March three (afternoon to night time) and on March four (morning to afternoon) at Padre Pio Friary, Moddi, Navelim. An in depth programme is but to be chalked out.


“St Anthony of Padua is a highly regarded saint within the Catholic Church and for Goans too. He was once an excessively charismatic preacher and miracle worker. Our province is dedicated to him and we hope this pilgrimage urges folks to draw inspiration from his life and alter their very own lives,” said Fr Waldheim Rodrigues, provincial minister, St Anthony Capuchin province, Goa.


The relics had been delivered to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra and Telangana in March ultimate yr. Prior to that they had been taken best to Kerala in February 1996.
