Maharashtra govt sets up state wetland authority

Five months after wetland regulations were notified by means of the Centre, the state govt has constituted a 21-member Maharashtra State Wetland Authority (MSWA) below the surroundings minister. The move comes after the Union ministry of atmosphere, wooded area, climate alternate (MoEFCC) notified the Wetland (Conservation & Management) Rules, 2017, in September. The new regulations have changed regulations formulated in 2010.

Under the brand new regulations, powers had been granted to the state govt to offer protection to and conserve wetlands. These regulations name for putting in of a state wetland authority in each state and Union Territory to be headed by means of atmosphere minister.



Now, activities like conversion of wetland for non-wetland functions, together with encroachments, disposal of waste, building activities and discharge of effluents from units will likely be prohibited.


The experts include govt officials, together with Dr Bharat Bhushan, head of division (atmosphere), YASHADA, Pune.
