Rs 5,252 crore allocated for railway projects in Odisha

BHUBANESWAR: The Centre has allotted Rs five,252 crore within the Union Budget 2018 for different railway tasks within the state. It is the absolute best budgetary allocation to the state until date. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik had demanded Rs 6,500 crore from the Centre this year for construction of railway infrastructure within the state.
This year, the railway has desirous about rapid development of outdated tasks. In view of this, it has sanctioned the absolute best quantity of Rs 625 crore for the outdated and much-touted mission, 289-km long Khurda-Bolangir new line. This mission sanctioned in 1996-97 will connect western part of the state to coastal Odisha. It also sanctioned Rs 300 crore for Talcher-Bimalagarh new line, Rs 200 crore for Angul-Sukinda new line and Rs 200 crore for Haridaspur-Paradeep new line.

Other essential new tasks like Jeypore-Nabarangpur (38 km) and Jeypore-Malkangiri (127 km) new lines gained Rs 150 crore and Rs 95 crore respectively. Railways sanctioned Rs 220 crore every for Sambalpur-Talcher doubling and Budapank-Salegaon doubling tasks.

Keeping station construction works in mind, the Railways has sanctioned Rs 215 crore for creation of a platform and laying of two lines on the side of Platform 1 at Bhubaneswar railway station. It could also be making plans to start out some long-distance trains from Bhubaneswar New station. For that function, it will create a hyperlink line between Mancheswar coaching complex and Bhubaneswar New station for starting of trains.

It may also introduce Automatic Train Management System at Khurda Road at the price of Rs 63 crore. Through the program, the ECoR will control all the trains passing 99 stations of Khurda Road department. A sum of Rs 31 crore has been sanctioned for the mission.


The Railways has sanctioned Rs 563 crore to affect all the routes of the ECoR. Now the ECoR has 464-km-long un-electrified rail lines. It has also sanctioned Rs 100 crore for construction of stations around the ECoR.


Among different small allocations, Railways will supply Rs 16 crore for upkeep of LHB coaches (modern coaches) in Mancheswar Carriage Repair workshop in Bhubaneswar.


Railways had sanctioned 5 new rail lines in Odisha final year, however no such announcement has been made this year. It had sanctioned survey paintings of 11 newlines, doubling, third lines and fourth lines within the state final finances, however this year it has announced to conduct survey paintings of 200-km-long Talcher-Gopalpur (Ganjam) new line. Besides, it has sanctioned survey paintings of two flyovers at Singapur Road in Rayagada district and Baghuapal near Sukinda station.


Last year, the Central executive had allotted Rs five,102 crore for railway sector of Odisha towards the state call for of Rs five,870 crore. The allocation was once Rs 4,682 crore in 2016-17 and Rs three,712 crore in 2015-16, reliable sources mentioned.
