Talks on with Japan, Germany on metro rail project: Min

Coimbatore: Rural and municipal administration minister S P Velumani on Wednesday said talks have been on with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the German construction agency Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to enforce the metro rail venture in the metropolis.
According to sources, the first phase of the metro rail venture, the feasibility find out about of which is but to be carried out, is likely to be commenced on Avinashi Road, where a flyover may be bobbing up.

"Work on Avinashi Road flyover and metro rail project will be taken up simultaneously and the work on one will not affect the other," Velumani said when requested how each initiatives can be implemented at the same stretch.

The minister, who inspected the soil checking out work for Avinashi Road flyover here, said the state executive has allocated Rs 950 crore for flyover building and sanctioned some other Rs 65 lakh for the soil checking out process. We will hold a meeting with the highways department regarding this," said a city-based industrialist.


The state executive has allocated Rs 121.82 crore for the development of four-lane flyover, which would be 1.7km long. It has additionally sanctioned Rs 88.61 crore for land acquisition as 18,526.97sq. personal land and 13,291.75sq. executive land are required to be obtained for the venture. The flyover would have two grade separators to hyperlink Ukkadam junction to Perur bypass street and Sungam bypass street.
