AHMEDABAD: When the state govt has halted issuing and renewals of liquor lets in given on health grounds, a minimum of 50 hotel homeowners are looking forward to permission to start liquor stores on their premises. The state govt has recently accepted 58 licenced liquor stores to operate in Gujarat.
According to officers of the state prohibition and excise department, 50 hoteliers from around the state, which mainly from accommodations in Ahmedabad and Vadodara, have queued up before the dep. for liquor shop lets in.

"With each passing day we get applications for wine shop licences from hotel owners. We have 50 such applications pending with us from across the state," mentioned officers.


According to the Gujarat Prohibition (Amendment) Act 2017, a hotel proprietor should show a licence to run a food business and should produce the collection of customers from outside the state and from foreign countries. The prohibition department may also examine that the hotel isn't inside 200 metres of an academic institute, a spiritual place, slums, hospitals, settlements of labourers and residential spaces of the scheduled caste (SC) group. Hotels in the heritage category and positioned at beaches are given priority.

As hotel owners face thin margins in the food business, they prefer to add a wine shop for revenue. Hotel homeowners need to publish a deposit of Rs 1 lakh and annual fees of Rs 25,000 to run a wine shop. "However, some are willing to spend more than Rs 1 crore to get a wine shop licence," an reputable mentioned.
