Belagavi gets 1st Kannada mayor in 5 yrs

Belagavi: The Belagavi City Corporation were given its first Kannada-speaking mayor in 5 years after Basappa Chikkaldinni was declared elected unopposed on Thursday. His deputy is Madhushri Pujari, from the Marathi team.
The 58-member company is broadly divided into two linguistic teams with none political affiliations. The Kannada team’s candidate received the elections because the mayor’s submit had been reserved for an ST candidate, and the Marathi team didn’t have one on its side. Hence, the election was and not using a contest.

As quickly as the mayoral election procedure began round 10am Thursday, Basappa Chikkaldinni (form ward 55) was the only one to report the nomination papers for the submit of mayor.
