Customs seize Rs 22 lakh worth of gold from Bhubaneswar airport

BHUBANESWAR: The intelligence unit of Customs and officer from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence on Sunday caught four men while wearing gold and foreign currencies at Biju Patnaik International Airport here. They were coming from Bangkok in Air India flight.

Assistant commissioner, Customs Sashi Bhusan stated the overall price of gold and currency is Rs 22,23,035. “We are taking a look into the matter. The passengers had been detained for additional questioning,” he informed TOI.


Five days ago, the Customs sleuths had apprehended a man while wearing gold bars. The passenger used to be intercepted after the Customs officers suspected his movement. The passenger used to be travelling in Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bhubaneswar. The gold bars were hidden in his rectum wrapped with black adhesive. In November, 2017, the customs sleuths had detained a man for possessing gold price around Rs 19 lakh at the airport. He used to be additionally coming from Kuala Lumpur.
