DCP from West Bengal injured in bomb blast airlifted to Coimbatore hospital

COIMBATORE: A police authentic from West Bengal who injured his proper forearm in a crude bomb blast was airlifted to a non-public medical institution within the town on Thursday to undergo a surgical procedure.

Deputy commissioner of police (headquarters) Arindam Dutta Chowdhury’s proper arm was critically injured when a crude bomb was hurled at him right through Ram Navami clashes in Asansol's Ranigunj area on March 26.


According to assets, he was airlifted to the city airport from West Bengal and taken to Ganga Hospital in a special ambulance on Thursday around 7.30pm. In West Bengal, he was admitted to a medical institution in Durgapur.


Dr S Raja Sabapathy, chairman, division of plastic surgery, Ganga Hoapital, told TOI that the police officer’s situation was strong. “He has suffered a couple of fractures on his forearm bones and in depth lack of pores and skin cushy tissue and tendons,” he stated.


“The police officer has gone through debridement (getting rid of contaminants and devitalised tissue) and stabilisation of fractured bones on Friday. In the next level, he would require reconstruction of soft tissue defects. It would take four to 6 weeks to finish the primary level procedure,” stated Raja Sapapathy.
