Domlur turns dry leaves into manure

BENGALURU: In the early hours of the day, one can spot pourakarmikas suffering to assemble fallen leaves strewn far and wide roads and footpaths. The rhythm is identical each and every time: sweep, hunch, accumulate, repeat.
While some of this waste finds its technique to landfills, maximum of it's left in the back of and burnt close to the roads. This has been deterring a lot of voters from venturing out within the morning to catch some recent air. The problem was once worsening in Domlur, which has been ranked 121 at the air high quality index file released by way of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board(KSPCB) lately.

However, the unveiling of a Leaf and Garden Waste Processing Centre within the BBMP park close to Domlur signal on Wednesday is all set to be a game-changer for the residents and professionals of the area.

The project was once undertaken by way of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee of city-based Sasken Technologies in affiliation with Bangalore Political Action Committee (BPAC).


The Leaf and Garden Waste Processing Centre can compost 1.2 tonnes of lawn waste in 24 to 48 hours, which will also be stored until it turns into manure. The complete process takes near to 15 days. This successfully means that the pourakarmikas within the area don't need to burn the lawn waste/leaves and instead can deliver the similar to the centre for processing.


Revathy Ashok, managing trustee and CEO, BPAC, pointed out: "It is also important that such initiatives are sustained over a long time".


Rajiv C Mody, chairman, MD & CEO, Sasken Technologies Limited, mentioned, "We embarked upon this initiative in a short time to better the living conditions of people in the locality and are committed to support this project."
