Health liquor permits may be slashed to half

AHMEDABAD: After postponing renewal and issual of clean liquor permits on health grounds with quick effect on Wednesday, the Gujarat government has plans to cut the permit holder number by means of nearly half, say resources in the home department.

Currently, there are 42,291 liquor permit holders on health grounds which covers 16 medical conditions. “In the coming months, the govt. aims to slash the selection of health permit holders to nearly 20,000,” the resources informed TOI.


Most of these health-based liquor permits were granted after candidates produced medical certificates from a qualified MD general physician endorsing that they suffered from one or more of the government-specified sicknesses.


Home department to review 42,000 permits

Most of these health-based liquor permits come with causes like insomnia, bronchial asthma, nervousness, nervousness neurosis, hyper-tension, low BP, prime BP, coronary insufficiency, restlessness and many others.


The house department claims it is going to overview those 42,000-odd permits and deny renewals to express medical conditions for which choice allopathic medical remedy is extensively available. “There are explicit therapies and drugs available for many of these conditions.
