Hear me before giving order on ED arrest, Karti appeals to SC

NEW DELHI: Karti Chidambaram on Saturday appealed before the Supreme Court that it hear him before passing any order on the reprieve granted to him the previous day in opposition to an arrest via the Enforcement Directorate (ED), reported ANI.

In a caveat, Karti asked that the court hear him if the ED challenges the Delhi high court's Friday order, which said that if a tribulation court grants him bail within the CBI case, the agency can not arrest him till March 20, which may be the date of the following hearing.


Karti feared that the ED would arrest him when the CBI custody ended on March nine.


Karti, a son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, had moved the Delhi HC pleading that the ED's summons be quashed. He made the plea after the Supreme Court allowed him to withdraw his petition there, and as a substitute challenge the issuance of summons via the ED within the Delhi HC.


Karti was once arrested final week after INX Media promoters Indrani and her husband Peter alleged that they paid him over Rs 3 crore in bribe at the behest of his father, who, because the then-finance minister, was once in-charge of the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. The board is the nodal agency for granting approvals to firms to get entry to overseas price range.
